Laura Waudby trains and competes in obedience, rally, agility, and dabbles in disc dog and trick training.  She was half way to her OTCH with her UDX Corgi “Lance” before his early retirement.  She also competes in agility and has championship titles in USDAA and UKI.  By day, Laura is a service dog trainer who  prepares dogs for 5 different types of service dog work: Diabetic alert, hearing alert, mobility assistance, autism assistance and seizure response. Due to the special behavior needs of her Duck Tolling Retriever Vito, Laura has developed a strong interest in learning how to create motivation and confidence in dogs that struggle, either through genetics or through less than ideal training, to make it into the competition ring.  Laura is excited to bring her insight and talents to the Fenzi Academy team!

OB160 - Ring Confidence

I would like you to know how great this course was for me. It was exactly what I needed. I have been doing Competition Obedience for about 10 years and have trained two dogs through their OTCH. However, the dog I have now has been a real challenge. The first two years of his life, he was very stressed in any kind of a group environment and reacted with barking and lunging. I have worked with him a lot and now he is now calm and beautifully behaved in class and in show environments, but as soon as we step in the ring at a match or trial, he is a different dog than outside the ring. He is very stressed by the pressure of the judge and ring stewards. I have had incidents of him bolting and running around barking at the judge. After completing the Ring Confidence Course, I finally feel I have some tools to work with to help him deal with his stress. It's such a wonderful feeling to see a light at the end of the tunnel. I have pretty much stopped training skills with him for now and started working with the elements Laura taught in the course. We still have a long way to go but I was able to use some of the things I learned in this course at a trail this weekend and we got our first leg in Open B! Best of all, I feel the stress slipping away in my training and my dog and I are having fun. I'm sorry for not signing this. I would like you to be able to use this testimonial but we have a very small obedience community where I live and I wouldn't want it to be seen as a criticism of my current instructor. Thank you Laura and Fenzi Academy for all you have done for me and my much loved dog.

I'd recommend this course to anyone who is struggling with their confidence in the ring. The exercises and video clips are pitched just right and make so much sense. You feel the instructor has genuinely dealt with these issues herself which is a huge help. You will be inspired! Clare W

This is The. Best. Fenzi course I have ever done (sincere apologies to the other instructors!). The class content was exactly what we needed after my girl earlier in the year had a huge scare at a show and froze in the ring (in the middle of doing our heel work routine) when she saw the dog that had attacked her, arrive at the show. This course helped us more than I can say, and I think we are well on our way to having the happy, confident dog again who has won obedience classes in the past. I'm battling to find enough superlatives - all I can say is THANK YOU LAURA for making a huge difference. The course content was perfect; loved the way it was delivered; loved the comments in the forums - simply loved it, full stop. This course IMHO should be compulsory for anyone intending to compete. Again - thank you.

Laura is awesome! Which is why I have taken multiple courses with her. She is so perceptive, and generous in her feedback. I also like that she is so unpretentious, and she is also active in competition; someone who doesn't talk the talk but really walks the walk

Laura was great! She was always encouraging and supportive but at the same time able to provide constructive critiism. Loved her calm, practical attitude and her willingness to talk about some of the struggles she has with her own dogs.

OB580 - Articles

FDSA is very lucky to have Laura. this is the second class i've taken with her - she is a gifted instructor and I look forward to future classes with her!

Laura provides a step-by-step method for scent discrimination that is guaranteed to be successful, even for the most sensitive dog. She is quick to understand the nuances of each team and provide individualized instruction. It's all about keeping it fun and improving the dog's confidence. Wonderful course - I was thrilled with the progress we made in six weeks. ~ Jill Stoller

This was an outstanding class to learn articles if you had never started or fix a problem if you'd already started. Laura is a talented instructor with a depth of knowledge to guide the dog and handler to success. The course was tailored so that we have good guidance on how to continue progressing after the session is over. I wouldn't hesitate to take another class from Laura. Deb A.

This was a great class. Laura had great knowledge and read the dogs very well. Her suggestions were spot on to keep the dog and handler on the right track to success.

This course is exactly what it describes. Whether you have had experience teaching scent articles or not, Laura will analyze where you are and offer different solutions to make you progress. The lectures as well as the supporting videos are clear and pave a solid road to making the dog understand what the game is about and the trainer develop skills to support the dog. In six weeks, we went from no idea what an indication was to an indication with no food with an average 80% success rate. I am very glad I had the opportunity to take this class at Gold. This is not cookie cutter class ; it is truly individualized to each team's needs. Nathalie V.

OB590 - Stand With Me

This class is a really comprehensive education for both dog and handler on all of the elements that make for a great stand behavior. My dog and I had been stuck in a rut when it came to stand, and not only did we get past that quickly thanks to the course materials, I now have a complete plan for getting this behavior rock-solid and trial ready! --Katherine O.

Stand with Me is an excellent class working on an exercise that can be very stressful for a dog. Laura had great ideas to break down the components to help explain the exercise to the dog and feel confident about it. Ann S.

Laura, I signed up for this class last minute, and almost on a whim. I am *so* glad I did! Kiyo & I both learned a lot & our confidence levels also increased. You are patient, thorough, detailed and kind. Looking forward to taking more classes with you. "Ring confidence" if we can get in it! Nancy Almann

This class should be called "Stands: Start to Finish" - it has even more info than I anticipated!

Thankyou very much for the opportunity to learn and break through some walls with our training. Laura is wonderful.

The lectures are really useful. Thanks to you now my dog is able to do the stand out of motion in a great way. She jumps with the front paws and then stands perfectly. Now she loves the stand, thank you for that.
